LATVIA. Lot of (2). Latvijas Valsts Kases. 10 Latu, 1935. P-26s1 & 26s2. Front Specimen & Back Specimens. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
Seldom offered and missing from even the most advanced collections of the Baltic States, this is an unadopted design that dates back to the mid 1930s. Its inclusion in the Pick catalog as an unissued type is rather odd, but it has led to an increase in demand from collectors hoping to acquire an example of every note from this heavily collected country. The printer is unknown but an educated guess would be a local Latvian printer. The front features a closeup of the Freedom Monument in Riga while the back features the Latvian coat of arms. This pair of uniface specimens features intricate detail along with a single perforation. The front shows all zero serial numbers as always seen. Both front and back are the sole examples in the PMG population report for the type. While some collectors may only want a fully printed specimen, the rarity of this particular issue means that we strongly urge you to consider this pair, as we do not know when the next opportunity arises to acquire this extremely rare design type. Needless to say, a highly important opportunity for the specialist and one of the highlights of the Al Kugel Collection. PMG Comments "Mounting Remnant Attached" on the front specimen and "Previously Mounted" on the back specimen.
From the Al Kugel Collection.
