An extremely challenging type in any format, this is the 20 Shillings or 1 Pound from the redesigned 1921 series, with the portrait of King George VI at right and the place of issue of Mombasa. This design would remain in use (with small modifications) into the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. This lovely original specimen is the sole finest in the PMG population report for this issue and it is a fantastic example of this desirable issue. Bright colors, strong embossing and good centering make this an ideal representative for the type. East African specimens were often mishandled and are not often found at the Gem Uncirculated level.
