Shanghai branch specimen. The sole graded specimen of this variety as produced by Giesecke & Devrient in Germany. Bold colors are noted on this example which features various red overprints and perforations, confirming its status as a specimen. Despite some slight mishandling over the years and some staple holes still with tremendous eye appeal and perfect for the collector wishing to acquire a single example of this challenging yet heavily collected institution. The $1 was the initial denomination of the series but a look at the PMG population report as well as publicly available auction records reveals that specimens of this denomination are as challenging as the higher denominations.
