JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (4.27 gms), Uncertain mint, possibly Utica, 46 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5.
Cr-467/1b; S-1403/2; Syd-1024. Obverse: Head of Ceres right, wearing grain wreath; Reverse: Emblems of the augurate and pontificate: simpulum, aspergillum, guttus, and lituus; [M] (munus = gift) to right. A bold, well-centered Denarius struck on a round flan. The crisp legends and design elements show little evidence of wear. Light touches of amber tone complement the remaining brilliance seen throughout the fields. A standout example of this popular Caesarean issue.
