1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 37.12-LL, W-4175. Rarity-5+. Draped Bust Left, ET-IIB. Fine Details--Damage (PCGS).
140.4 grains. Mottled dark tan and ruddy brown with mild granularity throughout, a few light old scratches and a peppering of tiny obverse digs. Gently dented below the effigy's chin. Centered a bit left and low on both sides, but not drastically so. The legends remain discernible, even if tight to the rims. The upper halves of the date digits are visible. Called Condition Census in our 2000 Perkins sale, which might be aggressive, but it is not a simple task to find six obviously nicer ones, either.
PCGS# 687273.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier ex Michael Ringo, December 1984; our (Stack's) sale of the George C. Perkins Collection, January 2000, lot 463.
