Description

1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 37.3-i, W-4110. Rarity-3. Draped Bust Left. AU-53 (PCGS).
157.6 grains. Satiny light brown with traces of luster remaining in the protected areas of the fields, particularly on the reverse. Obviously off center, with much of AUCTORI and INDE off the flan, countered by a broad arc of unstruck planchet in opposition to these features, almost full rightmost legends and good central details. The date is off the flan. Hard and smooth surfaces with a few small natural flaws on both sides. Handsome and probably in the lower end of the Condition Census for the variety.
PCGS# 687367. NGC ID: 2B2X.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier from our (Bowers and Merena's) sale of the Frederick B. Taylor Collection, March 1987, lot 2629; our (Bowers and Merena's) Four Landmark Collections Sale, November 1989, lot 5113; our (Bowers and Merena's) sale of March 2003, lot 139; Jim LaSarre, via John Agre and Dave Wnuck (Coin Rarities Online), June 2006.
