Description

Undated (1688) American Plantations Token, or 1/24 Part Real. Original. Newman 2-B, W-1135. Rarity-5+. 7 Harp Strings. Unc Details--Damage (PCGS).
144.1 grains. Technically Mint State, as certified by PCGS, with traces of luster in the fields on both sides. Evidence of tin pest is particularly pronounced on the reverse, the obverse with a few prominent pits at the rider's head and horse's belly. Still, the eye appeal is quite pleasing for this challenging type that is often found impaired to one degree or another. Detail is generally bold, although there is no border denticulation from 5:30 to 11 o'clock on the obverse, 9 to 2 o'clock on the reverse, due to less-than-perfect centering.
PCGS# 913303. NGC ID: AUB2.
From the Sydney F. Martin Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) sale of September 1998, lot 15; our (Ponterio & Associates') Sale #131, September 2004, lot 26.
