Original Steel Obverse Die for the Circa 1889 Washington Taking the Oath Medal. Type of Musante GW-1134, Douglas-48. Extremely Fine.
57.1 mm (overall diameter); 50.6 mm (die face); 49.6 mm (height). Diesinker William H. Key's original die for this historic medal commemorating the one century anniversary of Washington's Oath of Office at Federal Hall in Philadelphia. Light traces of oxidation, but the surface of the die face is fairly clean and bright. Original dies are rarely seen and, as in this case, most are unique. A great piece for the advanced collector of the 1889 Inaugural Centennial medals.
