Assayer "S" Left of the Shield
MEXICO. 4 Reales, ND (1543-55)-S Mo. Mexico City Mint. Carlos and Johanna. NGC VF Details--Salt Water Damage.
KM-18; Cal-130; Nesmith-Unlisted. An EXTREMELY RARE 4 Reales piece featuring the initial of assayer "S" to the left of the shield. Despite the presence of some moderate wear and roughness, the all-important assayer's mark displays boldly and unmistakably. The coin is well-centered on a round planchet and toned to a pleasing mottled charcoal finish. A highly appealing example considering its great rarity; as such, it is certain to see competitive bidding from advanced collectors.
