BOLIVIA. Cob 8 Reales, 1578-P C/B. Potosi Mint. Philip II. PCGS VF-35.
KM-5.1; Cal-671;Paoletti-59. Weight: 27.38 gms. An early cob of enduring beauty. Struck on a broad and almost perfectly round flan, large swathes of the outer legends are readable. The mintmark and assayer's mark both appear boldly, with the previous assayer "B" still visible above the "C" despite having been crudely effaced from the die. The Habsburg shield displays proudly with each segment distinguishable. The cross side suffers some doubling but retains a charming look all its own. Showing signs only of modest circulation, the surfaces have taken on a refined cabinet tone.
