FRANCE. Directory. Octagonal Tin Obverse Cliché or Trial for 2 Francs, ND (1795/6). Paris Mint. PCGS MS-63.
cf. Gad-490 (round & design completed). By A. Dupré. Dimensions: 33mmx 34mm; Weight: 4.82 gms. An EXTREMELY RARE impression of an unfinished design for the 2 Francs, this example lacks any différents or peripheral legends, with the overall nature of the devices seemingly incomplete and somewhat unrefined as well. Margolis proposes that this, in fact, was a trial for a dry seal. Dupré's grid lines are still visible, providing a further look into the process of designing and creating.
