FRANCE. Constitution. White Metal Obverse Cliché or Trial for 2 Sols Token, ND (1791). Birmingham (Soho) Mint. PCGS AU-50.
cf. Maz-152 (for overall type). By M. Boulton & N.-A. Ponthon for the Monneron Brothers. Weight: 4.73 gms. Seemingly serving as a rough outline for the obverse design that would eventually be adopted, this example lacks a degree of refinement as well as any lettering or legends. A great example of the artistic process and the prototype for the series. As such, EXTREMELY RARE and interesting.
From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Jim King at the CICF on 13 March 1998).
