FRANCE. Constitution. Silver Fantasy or Medallic Trial, ND ("1794") (ca. late 19th Century). Paris Mint. Louis XVII (in pretence). PCGS SPECIMEN-63.
Maz-394 var. (copper); Gad-26 var. (brass). After A. Dupré. A curiosity that is undoubtedly of late 19th Century manufacture, this trial striking has been variously described as 2 Sols (Gadoury) and 30 Sols (Margolis), while other firms have suggested Sol and 12 Deniers. As such, we have not included any such supposition regarding an intended denomination, especially given its after-the-fact fantasy nature. EXTREMELY RARE in silver, with a crisp, elegant strike, and charming toning throughout.
From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from B. A. Seaby on 11 May 1981).
