A common charter albeit a short-lived one, the San Francisco National Bank is not common in a way like some of the other banks that come to mind one when one thinks of San Francisco, but in terms of total population where the National Bank Note Census records 94 survivors. Yet with anything that can be considered "common" there's almost always going to be an exception. A highly attractive example and a rare piece for this common institution, this note is one of six $20 Brown Backs recorded here and offers itself as an appealing and colorful representative of this popular type with clear signatures to boot.
