Description

Impressive "East India Company" 5 Guinea in Mint State
GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Guineas, 1729-EIC Year TERTIO. London Mint. George II. PCGS MS-61.
S-3664; Fr-333; KM-571.2. A SCARCE survivor in just about any grade, the present example is fully Mint State with the reflectivity in the fields that one may mistake for Prooflike. The bold lettering "E.I.C." below the bust are unmistakable and well known for the East India Company. Produced from specie supplied by the East India Company to the Royal Mint, these monumental pieces serve as evidence of the vast amount of wealth and influence that the company was able to garner from its far-flung adventures in Asia. Britain was plagued by a general coinage shortage throughout the 18th Century, partly because of the outflow of currency to the ever-increasing number of Crown and Company territories and colonies. The 5 Guineas was no exception to the shortage and speaks to the overall appeal of this attractive survivor. With an old collectors tag.
From the Lucius S. Ruder Collection.

Estimate: $30000.00- $50000.00
