Description

Fantastic 1866 Mexico Remainder
MEXICO. Banco de Mexico. 100 Pesos, 1866. P-9r. M22r. Remainder. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
A.1 prefix. Low serial number 32. A lovely uniface remainder with serial number. Printed by the Banque de France in typical French style and to be issued during the short-lived reign of Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico. These notes, which are seldom encountered, are part of a short-lived issue encountered in a few different forms. This example, which is printed in black on French banknote paper has the first prefix and a low serial number, with no printing on back. Another example observed is printed in blue on both sides, but does not have a serial number. As such, remainder seems to be the most fitting way to describe this. A fantastic large-format design is seen that include four vignettes representing various industries of Mexico and the Imperial Coat of Arms. With some light handling all that is worth mentioning (and nothing that is out of the ordinary for the technical grade) this is a fantastic example that is one of just two such notes at this grade level in the PMG population report with just two finer. An important opportunity for the Mexican specialist or the collector of French printed banknotes.

Estimate: $3000.00- $5000.00
