ECUADOR. Lot of (2). Banco Central del Ecuador. 5000 Sucres, 15.1.1983. P-Unlisted. Front and Back Artist's Rendition. PMG Encapsulated.
A pair of very special front and back artist's renditions that are hand drawn on thin translucent (drawing) paper. The design is fully different from the issued 5000 Sucres, which was first released in 1987. This design, which is dated 1983, is depicted on two separate pieces. It appears that a 5,000 Sucres may have been planned several years before it was introduced into circulation, but it doesn't seem to have moved past the initial design phase seen here. This example is more similar in design to the lower denominations first issued in the mid 1970s (Pick-119 and Pick-120). After 1999 Ecuador started using the US dollar for its everyday circulation, and few previously unseen notes such as this are ever discovered for a country like Ecuador. The first of its kind we have seen, possibly unique, and an outstanding opportunity for the South American specialist.
