Description

COLOMBIA. Banco Nacional. 50 Pesos, 30.10.1899. P-S629. DP 8858. PMG About Uncirculated 53.
A rarity from the important series of notes of other Colombian banks overprinted on the back by the Banco Nacional in an effort to save printing costs. Previously offered by us in the January, 2018 sale of the Eldorado Collection of Colombian paper money as lot 10113, where it was described (in part) as: "A stunning note from this 1899 Provisional issue overprinted on a Columbian Bank Note Co. printed host note. The note has an American style layout and appearance. Named steamboat Francisco Montoya at the top center, but the scenery is American (note the quintessential river rafters along the Mississippi) upon close inspection and not Amazonian. Blue protector die "L". The back is brown." At the time, this was the sole finest graded in the PMG population report, and as of cataloging, this is still the case. We are also not aware of any others to have sold publicly since we last offered this piece. If you missed out in 2018, now is the chance, as we don't know when we are able to offer this type again in such a nice grade. PMG comments "Punch Hole Cancellation; Previously Mounted."
From the Gran Colombia Collection.

Estimate: $7000.00- $10000.00
