BOLIVIA. Banco Francisco Argandona. 5 Bolivianos, 1.1.1907. P-S150. PMG Choice Fine 15.
A better type for this private bank issue of Bolivia. While this example has obviously spent considerable time in circulation and is missing a small piece (not mentioned by the grading service), its major design elements are clearly visible, including the three pen signatures placed on the note upon issue. Printed by Waterlow & Sons, and surpassed in the population report by just three better examples. The Banco Francisco Argandona was founded by a man of that name who had made his riches in silver mining and at one point had loaned the Bolivian government money to fund the War of the Pacific. His portrait is seen on the left of the note, while on the other side is a portrait of his wife, Clotilde Uriouste de Arganona.
