Popular Bahamas 1974 $50 in Choice UNC
BAHAMAS. Central Bank of the Bahamas. 50 Dollars, 1974. P-40a. PCGS Banknote Choice Uncirculated 64.
Donaldson signature. The Bahamas series of banknotes introduced in 1965 went through several design changes. The design is divided up in three main series: 1965, 1968 and 1974. Each series contains different signature varieties and these notes are among the most heavily collected Queen Elizabeth II banknotes. For all three dates the same generally applies: The lower denominations are generally available, the $10 and $20 become more scarce, and the $50 and $100 are rare. The Bahamian Dollar was tied to the U.S. Dollar 1:1 when it was introduced in 1966 and still is to this day. As a result, when this series was issued, the $50 and $100 had considerable buying power. Few were put aside, and while coin dealers from the United States sometimes acquired a few pieces to sell to collectors, relatively few made it out of the Bahamas. As a result, any note of those two denominations is rare today, especially in uncirculated condition. The note offered here today is an ideal representative for this type. It has the first signature variety and has remained in uncirculated condition to this day. The color is fresh and there are no problems worth mentioning by either the grading service or us. A prime opportunity to acquire a high-grade example of a modern rarity.
