During World War II, while the Netherlands was occupied, the Curacaosche Bank ordered notes of the 1 and 2 1/2 Gulden denominations from the American Banknote Company to alleviate a coin shortage caused by the War. The 2 1/2 Gulden is much scarcer than the 1 Gulden.
