Fr. 2306. 1935A $1 North Africa Emergency Note. PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ.
Issued for use by American forces fighting in North Africa and Europe, notes like this one were issued so that should a significant quantity of such notes were captured by German and Italian forces it would be easy to demonetize and repudiate them in international commerce. Thankfully such a drastic measure never had to be taken, and today most are curios or reminders of one's service in a distant land over 80 years ago. Yet, even though many examples of this type survive in high grades, few survive in Superb Gem grades, as this example is among several dozen in this lofty state of preservation. Only four notes representing this popular wartime Friedberg have attained a higher grade at PMG to date.
