Fr. 43. 1874 $2 Legal Tender Note. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
A scarce Friedberg even in circulated grades, the Series of 1874 was short-lived. Bearing the signatures of Allison and Spinner, this type represents the final issue that bore the excessively intricate signature of Treasurer Francis E. Spinner before tendering his resignation on July 1, 1875 following an internal political disagreement at the Treasury Department. As for the note itself, an exceptional degree of originality and eye appeal is immediately noticeable. Bright paper printed with an excess of security fibers situated against a cacophony of color from the rich primary inks to the boldly printed floral ornament directly beneath the large "2" counter situated to the right of the primary vignette featuring the United States Capitol Building. The intricate bracelet back which made its introduction with the Series of 1874, marks a further albeit rich contrast with the multitude of green inks present. PMG Pop 7/None Finer.
