Fr. 37*. 1917 $1 Legal Tender Star Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
Representative of only a small fraction of the thousands of notes recorded for this common signature combination, replacement issues mark a scarce sight in any grade. Bearing the engraved signatures of Elliot and Burke, this note was issued at some point in between 1919 and 1921 prior to the elevation of Frank White to the position of Treasurer by incoming Republican President Warren G. Harding of Ohio. With crimson overprints and bold design elements this holds up as an attractive example that has been noted for "Exceptional Paper Quality" by PMG. A non-existent bottom margin likely precluded this note from a higher grade, but utterly fails to detract from the quality of this scarce replacement note.
