"1852" Sterling Silver California Slug Souvenir Spoon Made with an Impression of an Octagonal United States Assay Office of Gold $50 in the Bowl. Nearly As Made.
149 mm. 30.51 grams. .925 fine, 0.91 troy ounces ASW. A large figural spoon with a prospector holding his pick in one hand and displaying a large gold nugget in the other standing atop a curved floral stem which is stamped STERLING and S. & B. S.F. CAL. on the back. The 52 mm round bowl bears an intricate replica of a United States Assay Office of Gold $50 "slug." The representation is very close to Kagin-14, but with KUNER F added beneath the eagle. The bowl is gilt within the replica design, presenting a pleasing contrast to the silver of the rest of the piece.
