Description

1901 Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-65 (PCGS). OGH.

A scarcer late date Type III double eagle in Gem, and a date that is very rare any finer. Orange and rose tinged golden patina is aglow on both the obverse and reverse of this crisply struck example. Only 111,430 were struck for circulation, and this old holdered example will delight any picky collector. Reviewing the PCGS and NGC grading data for this date, it would not be a shocked if their numbers at the MS-65 level are inflated due to resubmissions hoping for a higher grade.

PCGS# 9039. NGC ID: 26CS.

PCGS Population: 367; 14 finer (MS-66 finest).

From the Ward Collection, Part III.

Estimate: $4000
