Description
1861-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-53 (NGC).
Plenty of surviving original mint luster mingles with appealing medium gold patina on both sides of this minimally circulated S-mint twenty. Despite the Civil War raging in the East, the San Francisco Mint churned out enough 1861-S double eagles to insure that today's collectors should find a pleasing AU example such as offered here well within their numismatic budget.
