1886 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-101. MS-66 (PCGS).
As the mints churned out Morgan dollars by the millions, mintages for smaller silver denominations plunged. Only 5,000 half dollars were made for circulation in 1886, and as such, are quite challenging in any grade; this Premium Gem example ranks among the ten highest graded by PCGS, and not only is its technical quality for the grade wonderful, its eye appeal is also top notch. A bold, semi-reflective luster flashes from below a rich layer of multihued iridescent toning. Violet, blue, and pink hues really pop when rotated, mixed with antique silver and warm golden patina. An exceptional coin that is very rare any finer.
