Fair Haven, Vermont. $5 1882 Date Back. Fr. 537. The Allen NB. Charter #2422. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
Representing a scarce type for Vermont with only 21 examples of the type recorded for the entire state, Vermont despite its small size has almost 2,400 Nationals recorded for the entire state. Out of those, the present example despite being unrecorded by the National Bank Note Census, marks by far the finest example of its type to surface on Vermont. Without a hint of circulation, this example offers collectors an uncommon note for both the assigned grade and the state as a whole. Likely held back from a higher grade on account of the uneven margins, a trait thrust upon this note by process, as these sheets were cut by hand. However, one trait sets this note above most with the same assigned grade as evidenced by the "Exceptional Paper Quality & Embossing" designation applied by PMG. The embossing on this note is above and beyond the quality seen even on notes with strong embossing, the punch-like nature of it is so boldly evident on the reverse that the face overprint which corresponds to the negative space on the reverse is readable and plainly evident. A truly rare opportunity for the collector seeking only the best National Bank Notes from New England or Vermont.
