Mullins, South Carolina. $10 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 627. The First NB. Charter #9876. PMG Very Fine 25.
Located in rural South Carolina, not far from that state's border with North Carolina, Mullins is like any other rural town in the Southeast located off the beaten path. With a quaint row of old buildings along Main St, the First National Bank once stood as one of the cities most prominent commercial institutions. Chartered in 1910, the First National Bank would fall into receivership in 1931 likely as a result of the Great Depression, a fate not so uncommon for a bank of its time. In its brief life, the First National Bank would issue a variety of National Currency to a figure of $441,530 before closing its doors. Of that issue, only $70 remains outstanding in the form of 10 notes issued by this institution according to data from the National Bank Note Census. In all, a rarity that should easily meet its Estimate: and utterly delight the South Carolina specialist.
