Sheet of four Proofs in $5-$5-$5-$10 arrangement. The $5 Proof features a view of the Stats Huys ca. 1642. This building served as the city's jail until 1699 when it was condemned as unfit for use as a jail. State Bank Department die at left. Fictional Diedrich (Father) Knickerbocker smoking his pipe at right. The $10 Proof has a vignette of the City Hall of New York City in the early 19th century. At right is the old Middle Dutch Church which eventually became the Central Post Office for New York City. Although undated we can pinpoint the time period of these notes from the first half of the 1850's since the bank was a short-lived institution in use from 1851 to 1854.
