New York, New York. Bank of the Republic. 18xx $500. Haxby 1890-500-G18. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Proof.
From our 2011 ANA auction where it was cataloged, "Imprint of Danforth, Bald & Co., New York, & Philad. India paper only. Top center, City Hall. Left end, Washington. Counters in three corner with lower right having NY Bank seal. Significant very high denomination proof rarity. This is the Haxby Plate note and there is one other known. That was the proof in lot 1271 of the 1990 ABN sale which Ford bought. Subsequently sold in those sales and now well ensconced in a collection. This is the only game in town for those desiring this impressive rarity, as far as we can see." It sold for close to $5,000 on this evening.
