Winona, Minnesota. Winona County Bank. 1858 $1. Haxby 205-G2P. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Proof.
A lovely India paper printed by Bald, Cousland & Co./ABNCo employing stock vignettes of the period as ordered by the bank. Typical punch cancels are seen along the signature lines on this "A" plate from the top of the sheet which was an ABNCo engraved $1-$1-$2-$3 plate. The bank holds the distinction of being one of the soundest institutions for the state with Founder A.W. Webster instrumental in the formation of the National Bank of Winona (Charter #1643) in 1865. Redemption of issued notes at par value would have likely continued. Some minor detriment has resulted in the assigned grade as this well printed note appears to have all of the attributes of a Gem note.
From the Caine Collection.
