Description

New Orleans, Louisiana. Bank of Louisiana. 1800s Printing Plate. $500.

A rather unusual item in any case, this lot represents the first obsolete printing plate that we have had the privilege of offering at public auction since November 2019. Likely hailing from the 1840s on account of the vignette used, this particular issue is not listed in the Whitman Encyclopedia of Obsolete Paper Money and therefore not likely issued by the institution which commissioned this plate. Condition is superb overall, a nice dark patina is the dominant hue of this item and is complemented by sharp engraved details. A few minor scratches and wear along the high points are apparent but fails to distract from the overall eye appeal of this item.

Estimate: $1000.00- $3000.00
