Description

1791 Washington Large Eagle Cent. Musante GW-15, Baker-15, W-10610. Lettered Edge. MS-63 RB (PCGS).

Superior quality for the type, for while these appears often enough in Mint State (our present sale in a case in point), such examples seldom retain as much original rose-red color as seen in this specimen. We note only light muting to olive-brown, the surfaces smooth during in-hand viewing with a hard, frosty texture. A shallow curved planchet clip at 5 o'clock relative to the obverse is as made and adds character. With an uncommonly full strike for the type, as well, this piece is sure to sell for a strong premium.

PCGS# 703. NGC ID: 2B6Z.

From the George Collection.

Estimate: $3000
