Description

1785 Nova Constellatio Copper. Crosby 3-B, W-1895. Rarity-2. CONSTELLATIO, Pointed Rays. AU-58 (PCGS).

Excellent planchet quality with tinges of olive to otherwise autumn-brown patina. The strike is sharp, well centered, and from a desirable earlier die state prior to the deterioration and muddling of the obverse detail. A full, crisp eye in the center on that side is a particularly desirable attribute. Hard and frosty with no blemishes of note apart from a faint reverse spot in the date area, this is as nice as this Newman number comes without advancing to the Choice Mint State level. Worthy of a strong premium.

PCGS# 813. NGC ID: 2AZ3.

From the Windy City Collection. Purchased from Stack's, December 27, 1991.

Estimate: $1500
