Description

"1778-1779" (ca. 1780) Rhode Island Ship Medal. Betts-562, W-1730. Without Wreath Below Ship. Brass. AU Details--Damaged (NGC).

Presenting quite well for the assigned grade, both sides retain plenty of bold to sharp detail in the absence of significant wear. Color is quite handsome, as well, and nicely blends medium brown and deep golden-copper shades. A couple of dull digs on the ship side help to explain the NGC qualifier, and there is evidence that this medal was slightly bent at one time and since straightened. More affordable for this challenging type, and offering quite a lot of detail and eye appeal for the budget minded collector.

PCGS# 569. NGC ID: 2B5F.

Estimate: $1500
