1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-16, Salmon 2-B, W-835. Rarity-2. AU Details--Obverse Graffiti (NGC).

71.6 grains. Pleasant pewter gray surfaces with some deeper olive-charcoal engaging the upper left reverse. The obverse is well centered, reverse just a trifle off center to 11:30. A few extremely shallow straight clips account for the slightly out-of-round-appearance, but the planchet is well composed and free of significant flaws. Lower obverse and upper reverse borders show some softness, detail otherwise bold to sharp. A few marks in the field areas at the left and right of the tree's trunk explain the NGC qualifier.
