"1867" Andrew Johnson Presidential Medal. Julian PR-13. Copper, Bronzed. Specimen-64 (PCGS).
76 mm. Gorgeous deep chocolate brown bronzing is rich and even on both sides. The surfaces look generally pristine with a soft satin finish throughout. Fully struck with strong visual appeal. This is a very scarce medal, from a mintage of 118 pieces, but seemingly even rarer; fewer than 20 have sold publicly in the last decade or more. Andrew Johnson is an unusual character to celebrate, yet celebrate him this medal does. It is a wonder that 118 medals were struck, and it seems likely that not all of them were distributed, thereby explaining the scarcity of examples today.
