CC-17. Continental Currency. November 29, 1775. $7. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ.
No. 27559. Although eclipsed by other Continental issues particularly those employing Franklin's Fugio motif or the marbled polychrome paper used for the exceptional CC-9 we sold last November, this note represents an equally important witness to history. Printed by Hall & Sellers of Philadelphia this example radiates with originality by virtue of light circulation and bold color and detail. Engraved above a vignette featuring an oncoming storm stands the Latin phrase SERENABIT which according to Newman translates as "it will calm down." A fitting phrase reflecting the uncertainly that faced the young republic during this turbulent time. Noted for "Exceptional Paper Quality" by PMG.
