ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos), ca. 332-302 B.C. NGC Ch F.
HGC-1, 801; Vlasto-596; HN Italy-935. Obverse: Warrior, holding two spears and shield, and preparing to hurl third spear, on horse rearing right; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding shield and trident, riding dolphin left; below; dolphin left. Though worn and slightly rough, this Didrachm retains clear detail including a charming winged hippocampus visible on the dolphin rider's shield.
