MEXICO. Caballito Peso, 1914. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
KM-453. KEY DATE. With a mintage of 140,000, this date is far and away the lowest of the 5 year series with relatively few surviving examples. The next emission of Peso-denominated coinage from Mexico City would not come until 1918, those being produced on much lighter planchets. As logic dictates, this resulted in the mass hoarding or melting of older varieties. This example, one of only a small number that have been certified as Mint State, displays glowing luster in the fields and few deep marks for the grade. As such, it should be an ideal representative for the collector who has been patiently waiting for the right example to come along.
