Mexico City 8 Reales cob below picture of the Whydah, a merchant slaver ship captured by pirates in 1717 led by Captain "Black Cat" Bellamy, and used for pirating until sinking in a storm off Cape Cod on April 26, 1717. The 8 Reales is certified to have been recovered from the wreck, and is shown with shield side facing out, clear Mexico City mintmark and denomination to sides. Reverse of coin not visible. Attractive russet toning on peripheries. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity from Maritime Explorations, Inc, Artifact #58457, weight of coin listed as 24.9 g.
