Description

GERMANY. Bavaria. Ducat, 1803. Maximilian IV Joseph, Elector (1799-1805). NGC MS-62.

Fr-262; KM-646.2. Three year type (1801-1803). Obverse: Head right as Count Palatine and Duke-Elector; Reverse: Oval arms under electoral crown, "PRO DEO ET POPULO". Thanks to judicious diplomacy during the Napoleonic Wars, the Elector emerged from the fray as King Maximilian I. A well struck example with eye catching gleam in the fields and no significant marks that enter the surfaces. The only example we have seen of this date, cataloged as better than the two prior years in the Standard Catalog of World Coins and valued at $4,200 in MS-60 condition.
