COLOMBIA. 5 Peso, 1885/74. Medellin Mint. PCGS Genuine--Filed Rims, EF Details Gold Shield.
Fr-105; Restrepo-M330.1; KM-163. Clear and unusual overdate. Displaying excellent eye appeal with frosty light yellow golden surfaces that hold a slight trace of handling here and there, but are overall quite nice with few instances of hard marks and hints of orange toning. The merest abrasion on the edge (not the rim) is seen above "OS" of "PESOS"; perhaps others are hidden beneath the insert prongs, but this coin hardly appears damaged. In fact, it faces up quite a bit better than Eliasberg example (ANR 4/2005 - Lot 1651 @ $2,990) that was similarly detailed, but retained numerous planchet striations within Liberty's bust. The obverse die is heavily cracked, and thin cracks connect many peripheral details on the reverse as well. A historically important rarity, the last of the 5 Pesos issues and the only one coined in .666 fine gold.
