CHILE. Brass 8 Escudos Pattern, ND. NGC AU-58.
KM-PnA2; Onza-1734. Struck in brass. Similar in design to the earlier Republican issues struck from 1818 through 1834 (KM84), but more closely grouped with the 1840s patterns produced in Paris by the firm Trelon, Weldon et Weil. On this example, light blended handling determines the grade with moderate tone in the central fields and warm orange color surrounding the protected areas. A touch of striking softness, common to most seen, is visible in the centers. SCARCE as a type with this example being particularly desirable due to its famous pedigree.
