Fr. 16c. 1862 $1 Legal Tender Note. PMG About Uncirculated 55.
Among the most historically significant of notes issued by the Federal government, this lovely Civil-War-era $1 legal tender note displays but only a hint of circulation and stands above the mass of circulated examples that frequently appear on the market often with problems. A calculating portrait of Treasury Secretary Chase stands at left while various ornamental features dominate the face of this note. Bold red serial numbers and a rich Treasury seal stand present and appear as original as the day they were affixed over 150 years ago. The reverse is equally impressive and retains an exceptional coloration that evokes "Fresh" and "Original." A single pinhole is nonetheless noted, and utterly fails to detract from the overall eye appeal of this lovely issue. PMG comments "Pinhole."
