Diakov-1791. A. Klepikov & A. Lyalin. Diameter: 64mm. Russo-Turkish War series. Commemorating the Efforts of the Brig Merkurii against two Ottoman ships. Obverse: Youthful seminude Mercury (representing the Brig Merkurii ), defiantly holding banner, shield, and sword, and standing upon clamshell; to left and right, two nude and heavily bearded males (representing the Ottoman ships) riding atop marine beasts and wielding clubs; Reverse: Crowned imperial double eagle, with coat-of-arms and order chain on breast, and holding orb and scepter; crown above; all within wreath. A SCARCE and interesting type, with alluring red-brown surfaces and great remaining brilliance.
