RUSSIA. Gold 2 Rubles, 1727. Moscow (Red) Mint. Peter II. NGC AU-53.
Fr-104; KM-184; Bit-10. Mintage: 11,728. A VERY RARE offering from one of the two brief reigns following the very lengthy one of Peter "the Great," this gold denomination displays some minor wear and evidence of a period spent in circulation, but nevertheless remains enchantingly original and without issue. A solid portrait of the czar graces the obverse, with a well-defined figure of St. Andrew standing defiantly upon the reverse. A hue of deeper toning highlighted by cabernet and burnt sienna augments the fields and devices throughout, adding even more charm to this exceptional specimen.
