PHILIPPINES. Inaugural Assembly of the Philippine Assembly Silver Medal, 1907. NGC MS-63.
Honeycutt-79; Basso-743. Obverse: Eagle atop Philippine Seal, inscriptions VENIDA DELSECRETARIO DE LA GUERRA MR. TAFT / PARA INAUGURAR LA ASAMBLEA FILIPINA / ISLAS FILIPINAS around; Reverse: Inscriptions INAUGURACIONDE LA ASAMBLEA FILIPINA / GOBIERNO DEL GENERAL SMITH / FESTEJOS POPULARES. A VERY RARE medal that does not seem to appear with a frequency, this charming representative delivers a strong strike, with rich detail and a crusty old tone. An interesting piece of trivia to note with this medal is the "Mr. Taft" referenced was Secretary of War William H. Taft, future president of the United States.
